Mornington Peninsula Careers
As the Mornington Peninsula is renowned as a world class tourism destination, with 5.7 million visitors per year, the industry contributes 11% to the Gross Regional product and provides for 10% of all employment. While tourism is one of the key industries for the Mornington Peninsula, tourism businesses face a genuine issue with attracting and retaining employees. The Phillip Island/Mornington Peninsula Tourism Employment Plan has identified a current shortfall of 450 tourism and hospitality workers in the region.
Despite this shortfall we know there is a lack of understanding by the local workforce to consider the industry as a career choice. This is despite the Mornington Peninsula tourism industry having the ability to provide year round long term and satisfying career paths.
Looking towards the future, the investment pipeline for the Mornington Peninsula tourism industry is extremely strong, one of the healthiest within the state. This strength means labour shortage will be exacerbated further.
