In the 2021/22 financial year the Shire will invest over $10million in recovery projects, programs, and initiatives. These actions will contribute to the lasting resilience and renewal of the Peninsula.

As part of their COVID-recovery program specifically for businesses, the Mornington Peninsula Shire has developed a suite of targeted business grants. These are aimed at helping local small and medium businesses strengthen resilience and build capacity in the current COVID economy. The first phase of these were rolled out between October and December 2021.

Using information gathered from the most extensive business survey ever conducted by the Shire, a suite of grants were developed. For the first phase four key areas were identified as needing grant support: new business support, business continuity planning and expansion, online initiatives, and tourism marketing and membership subsidies.

With more than 500 applications received in this competitive grants process, the program was expanded from the original $290,000 to a total of just over $460,000. Each application was assessed by a panel before the results were confirmed and announced. More than 200 local businesses were successful in meeting the specific criteria for each particular grant. Over the next 6 months they will be able to implement their plans and develop their businesses.
